La Plata, MD – Angela Anderson, the mother of 29-year-old Crystal Keyona Anderson, reported missing in Prince Georgeโs County in August 2011, was trembling as she approached the microphone at a press conference held Thursday, March 19 at Charles County Sheriffโs Office headquarters.
She was asked if she had anything to say to Raymond Daniel Posey III, 22, of Nanjemoy, indicted by a Charles County Grand Jury with the murder of her daughter.
โI am going to pray for him and his family,โ she said through tears. โI may live to be well into my 90s, but he has robbed me of 10, 20, 30 or 40 years of being with my daughter. He robbed me. There is a hole left in my heart. Nothing has been able to heal that hole.
โFor years I looked for my child,โ she said, โand I couldnโt find her. For her to come back home in bits and piecesโฆโ her voice trailed off at that point and she could continue no further.
Charles County Sheriff Troy D. Berry announced that Posey was indicted Feb. 23 for murder in connection with the disappearance of Anderson, whose remains were found by a hiker near Purse State Park in January 2012.
โOur heartfelt condolences go out to the family,โ Berry said. โWe are praying for you. We realize this moment may be bittersweet.โ
Detective John Elliott, lead investigator on the case, said they are still hopeful that people who were at a Nanjemoy party in 2011โthe last place Crystal was seen aliveโwill step forward with more information.
Elliott said Crystal was last seen leaving the party with Posey on the night she disappeared.
โThey did know each other,โ he asserted.
Police say robbery was the apparent motive in the crime.
Posey is currently being held in the Maryland Department of Corrections on an unrelated armed robbery case that occurred in Charles County.
โI am confident there are people out there who know something about Crystalโs murder,โ Elliott said.
The detective said his office interviewed โdozens and dozens of peopleโ regarding the case, but said he is certain there are others who know something they are not telling police.
โThere are people out there who do know something,โ he said.
Elliott explained articles of clothing and items linking Posey to the scene of the crime have been gathered into evidence.
The investigation is ongoing and other people may be charged. Anyone with additional information is asked to call Elliott at 301-609-6515. Berry told Andersonโs mother and father, Dennis Stevenson, that the officers of the Charles County Sheriffโs Office will support them through the long weeks and months ahead.
โThis agency will be with you during the trial and thereafter,โ he said.
