Caroline Conway

La Plata, MD – A tumultuous jury selection process began Monday, Dec. 5 for Caroline Conway, 53 of Waldorf, for the so-called McDonaldโ€™s murder which occurred on May 20, 2015, at the McDonaldโ€™s located at 11025 Mall Circle in Waldorf.

Conway and her son Richard Conway, a Prince Georgeโ€™s County police officer, were said to be embroiled in an ongoing custody dispute with the officerโ€™s ex-wife, a 24-year-old female who survived the shooting.

Robert Michael Mange, 25 of Smithfield, VA, was killed when Caroline Conway arrived at the fast-food restaurant at approximately 5:48 p.m., and shot both Mange and her ex-daughter-in-law while they sat in their car.

Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office investigators later speculated as to whether Conway used her sonโ€™s service revolver in the shooting.

Defense Attorneys Melvin L. Allen Jr. and James E. Farmer conjectured as to how the jury selection process will work out.

With the calendar careening toward Christmas, they asserted that small business owners would not want to give up their most lucrative shopping season of the year to sit on a jury that is expected to be tied up in a trial expected to last between eight days and two weeks.

Delegate C.T. Wilson, representing Robert Conway, was not allowed to sit with the defense team for Conwayโ€™s mother by visiting Judge Steven I. Platt.

Charles County States Attorney Tony Covington and Assistant State’s Attorney Francis Granados will be prosecuting the case for the state.

Witnesses to the crime who were in the courtroom at the beginning of proceedings Monday morning were asked to leave the room during the jury selection process.
