GREENBELT, Md. — Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who lived in Maryland for more than a decade before being deported in violation of a federal court order, is reportedly being returned to the United States to face federal charges filed in Tennessee.
According to an indictment unsealed May 31, Abrego Garcia is charged with conspiracy and unlawful transportation of undocumented migrants for financial gain. Prosecutors allege that from 2016 through 2025, he and co-conspirators moved undocumented individuals from Central America through Mexico into the United States, using social media and cell phones to coordinate the activity.
Court documents accuse Abrego Garcia of working with individuals connected to MS-13 and facilitating the transport of thousands of undocumented migrants across multiple states, including Maryland and Tennessee. The indictment also details that some transports included unsafe conditions—migrants hidden on vehicle floorboards, children traveling without proper restraints, and firearms or narcotics allegedly moved alongside human cargo.
One count stems from a November 30, 2022, traffic stop in Tennessee, where troopers discovered Abrego Garcia driving a Chevrolet Suburban with nine undocumented men who lacked identification. He allegedly lied about their travel history and destination, claiming they were returning to Maryland from St. Louis after construction work. Authorities say the passengers had in fact been picked up in Texas.
Abrego Garcia, 29, was arrested in Prince George’s County on March 12 after completing a shift as a sheet metal apprentice and picking up his 5-year-old son, who has autism. Despite a 2019 immigration judge’s ruling shielding him from removal to El Salvador due to credible fear of persecution, he was deported three days later and held at El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT.
ICE later admitted his removal was the result of an “administrative error.” His attorneys argue the government has never provided evidence of gang affiliation and say his only U.S. legal issues were minor traffic violations. He had regularly checked in with immigration authorities prior to his arrest.
In response to reports of Abrego Garcia’s return, U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) issued a statement criticizing the Trump administration for what he described as defying the courts and the Constitution. “For months the Trump Administration flouted the Supreme Court and our Constitution,” Van Hollen said. “They appear to have finally relented to our demands for compliance with court orders and with the due process rights afforded to everyone in the United States.”
“This is not about the man, it’s about his constitutional rights — and the rights of all,” Van Hollen added. “The Administration will now have to make its case in the court of law, as it should have all along.”
Abrego Garcia lives in Maryland with his wife, Jennifer Vasquez, and their three children. A date for his initial court appearance in Tennessee has not yet been scheduled.

Shouldn’t that be:”Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran national who lived ‘ILLEGALLY’ in Maryland for more than a decade”?
At least we know that the Federal Government can’t enforce the U.S. Constitution as long as the Demoncrat judges continue to overstep their bounds.
Maybe they should move a few million of these ‘newcomers’ next door to these wizard judges.
Wow, so much wasted money for a non-American citizen. THink just think how much money was spent to fly his happy butt back into America!….
