LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Four Girl Scout Troop 10069 members have earned the prestigious Bronze Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can receive, after completing a community initiative focused on pet-friendly spaces in Leonardtown.
Fifth-grade Girl Scout Juniors Greta Isom, Kait Larson, Sarah Mack and Stella Hageman each dedicated more than 20 hours to their project, “Pet Friendly Patios in Our Community,” which promotes animal welfare and raises awareness about pet accessibility in public spaces.

Working with businesses throughout Leonardtown, the scouts created a user-friendly map highlighting restaurants and establishments that welcome dogs on their patios. The map includes details such as dog-walking trail lengths and locations of pet waste stations, making it easier for residents and visitors to enjoy time with their pets.
The Girl Scouts also designed custom vinyl decals for businesses to display in their windows, clearly indicating their pet-friendly status. Printed versions of the map are available at several locations around town. It has also been shared with the Leonardtown Town Council and will be available on its website and social media channels.
Thanks to these four innovative Junior Scouts, tails will be wagging across Leonardtown as pets and their people enjoy a more welcoming and walkable community. Whether you’re sniffing out a good meal or just out for a stroll, the new map makes finding a spot for four-legged friends easier.
