Leonardtown’s Smash House Is Serving Burgers That Might Ruin Other Burgers For You

LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Smash House officially opened in its new location in January, after years of selling mouth-watering burgers, fries and more to hungry shoppers in Shepherd’s Old Field Market.

The new Smash House is located at 41656 Fenwick St. in downtown Leonardtown. Now with its own standalone shop, Smash House is ready to become the area’s hot new burger spot.

The BayNet visited the new restaurant to try some of its fan favorites that helped Smash House become the neighborhood staple it is today. The space is casual and even outfitted with a full bar and TV so you can have even more dining options when you come in — if you can even choose from the massive menu, filled with deliciousness.

The staff was friendly and eager to welcome us to the shop and to share their recommendations when we weren’t sure what to try. If you go with a group like we did, you get the chance to sample more than one meal.

Here’s What We Loved About Smash House

Burgers

Of course, Smash House is known for its smash burgers. In case you’ve somehow missed the smash burger craze, the burgers are made by pressing meat into a thin patty onto an extremely hot griddle. The result is a juicy burger with a dark, crispy crust. Smash burgers are crazy popular, and Smash House has perfected its recipe.

When you come in, you’ll be able to choose from several twists on their classic burger, plus turkey burgers, black bean burgers, bacon jam burgers and more. Most of the burgers come with their signature Smash Sauce. And yes, you should ask for extra sauce on the side.

Chicken And Hot Dogs

If, for some reason, you don’t want a smash burger, you can opt for a chicken sandwich, a chopped cheese, a hot dog or smash tacos. The chicken sandwich we tried was also made using the smash burger method and had a nice crispy crust we enjoyed.

Fries

The regular fries are salty and crispy, which is great. But if you’re feeling brave and hungry, you can try Smash House’s signature “Smash fries.”

Smash fries are crispy fries topped with a blend of sassafras beef and American cheese, chopped pickles and onions, topped with Smash Sauce. Heads up, these fries are messy and they’re filling. They’re best shared and, while we hate to be those people, maybe eat them with a fork.

Bar And Seating

The new restaurant has plenty of seating at the tables, so you can get a spot by the window to enjoy the view or a cozy spot by the bar. The bar itself is a great addition for people to enjoy the burgers solo or with friends.

We’re excited to have this awesome new spot right in Leonardtown and will definitely be back next time we’re in town.
