LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Lexington Park Library meeting room use, lobby access and holds checkout will be available May 26-29 as the library installs a new makerspace.

St. Mary’s County Library announced the new makerspace is possible through grants from the Maryland State Library Agency, TEDCO, the American Library Association and the Patuxent Partnership, along with donations from the Friends of St. Mary’s County Library, St. Mary’s County Library Foundation and community donors.

During the installation period, walls and flooring for the makerspace will be completed. Meeting rooms will remain open by reservation, the lobby will stay open and customers will be able to pick up holds for checkout.

The main part of the library will be closed to the public during construction. Closed areas include the computer lab and public computers, the children’s area, art gallery, teen area, adult area, telehealth booth and study rooms.

To place a hold for an item to pick up at Lexington Park Library, browse the catalog at www.stmalib.org and select “Place Hold Request.” Customers will receive notification by email or phone call when holds are ready.

Leonardtown Library and Charlotte Hall Library will remain fully open during regular business hours. The Mobile Library will continue operating regular stops. More information is available at www.stmalib.org/about-us/mobile-library-and-outreach-services.

Library officials said they expect to open the makerspace to the public later in June.
