Leonardtown, MD– A Lexington Park woman has pleaded ย guilty to assault for attacking another woman last August. Barbara Virginia Daly, 54, attacked the victim on Aug. 19, 2016 during a custody dispute. The victim had temporary legal custody of Dalyโs grandchildren. When Daly asked to visit with them, the victim told Daly she was not allowed to take the children away from the home or visit them without supervision.
When the victim walked away, Daly grabbed her by the hair and then raked her fingers across the victimโs face, resulting in multiple lacerations.
Daly was charged with first-and second-degree assault. On May 22, Daly pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and the charge of first-degree assault was dropped. Daly was sentenced to five years in prison with all but six months suspended.
Daly was also sentenced to two years of supervised probation and was approved for work released.

Leonardtown, MD— On August 19, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Seyfried responded to MedStar St. Mary’s Hosptal for a reported assault.ย
Once Seyfried arrived on the scene contact was made with the victimย in the emergency room. The victim advised she had been assaulted by the defendant, who was identified as Barbara V. Daly, 53 of Lexington Park, after a custody dispute.ย
The victim advised she is the temporary legal guardian of Daly’s daughter’s children. The victim also advised she returned home from running errands with the children and, “upon pulling into her residence, Daly was waiting at her residence,” according to charging documents.
When the victim exited her vehicle,ย Daly approachedย themย stating she wished to visit the children. As the victim was getting things outย of her vehicle, “Daly picked up one of the children and began walking away,” charging documentsย indicated.ย
The victim advised sheย went and retrievedย the child from Daly’s arms, tellingย Daly she was not allowedย to take the children away from the residence or visit them without supervision.ย
The victimย stated she thenย turned and began to walk away when Daly grabbed her by the hairย and yanked her backwards. Daly then grabbed the victim’s face from behind and raked her fingers across the victim’s face, with one of Daly’s fingers going into the victim’s mouth.ย
The victimย stated she then ushered the childrenย inside beforeย calling her husband to come assist her. Seyfried made contact with the victim, observations were made and Seyfried noticed that there were multiple lacerations on the victim’s face.ย
Seyfried also talked to a physician who advised, “the tear was completely through her cheek and she couldย put her tongue throughย the tear. Additionally, if the tear was not aligned properly, itย could lead to permanent dis-figurationย and require additional corrective and cosmetic surgeries” according to charging documents.ย
Daly has been charged with first-degree assault ย and second-degree assault. Daly at this time does not have a scheduledย court appearance set. Daly faces a maximum jail sentenceย of 35 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.
