Volunteer firefighters responded to several reported house fires Thursday night while drenching thunderstorms rolled through the area โ with at least three reported lightning strikes.
At 10:20 p.m. firefighters from Leonardtown, Hollywood, Seventh District and Bay District were dispatched to a fire in the vicinity of Megan Lane and Ryan Way, Leonardtown.
Arriving units encountered a well-off fire in a large garage with a mobile home inside.
Firefighters worked on the fire for nearly an hour, with a Seventh District truck shuttling water from a hydrant at Leonardtown Middle School.
At 10:40 p.m. a call went out for a house fire on Golden Eye Drive, Callaway. Arriving firefighters encountered fire on the second floor of a dwelling.
Shortly after, a lightning strike was reported at a house on Post Oak Road in St. Inigoes. The homeowner reported lightning hit in between two houses, causing smoke and a strange smell inside.
A truck from Solomonโs Volunteer Fire Department filled in at Bay District Co. 3 during the rush of calls.
Later in the evening, Leonardtown and Seventh District firefighters responded to a house fire on Hurry Road in Clements. A lightning strike was reported at 1:12 a.m., causing an electrical fire.
