During the week of March 2,ย St. Maryโ€™s County Public Schools held the 2009 History Day Competition at Chopticon High and Margaret Brent Middle School.ย History Day is a national program that promotes the study of history while providing a forum at which students compete for excellence in one of several categories: documentary, performance, exhibit, website, and historical paper.ย Students are divided into a junior and senior group.ย The junior division consists of grades six through eight, while the senior division consists of grades nine through twelve.ย In addition, students must stay within the guidelines established by the National History Day organization and address the theme.ย ย 

These students will advance to the state competition that is held on Saturday, April 25,ย at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.ย The participants are:
