Prince Frederick, MD – The weekend’s searing heat sent many folks indoors but dozens of them came out Saturday, Aug. 13. The men, women and children—portable chairs and blankets in hand—were drawn out by the aroma of franks and burgers on the grill, the sound of live music and three-dimensional dinosaurs.
The event in downtown Prince Frederick was called “Movies on Main Street,” a production of David Fegan of Calvert Commercial Real Estate Inc. for several summers. Fegan organized two outdoor movies during the summer. He would rent a large screen from a New Jersey company, book a local acoustic band, Rockfish, to play during the final twilight hour, provide the burgers and franks, soda and water, and candy—a didn’t charge any of the spectators a dime.
Back in June “Frozen” was the feature movie. The Aug. 13 feature was “Jurassic World” in 3D. The showing of Jurassic World had been originally been scheduled for July 30. However, a weather forecast predicting stormy conditions for that night prompted Fegan to postpone the show until August. The forecast proved to be spot on as all of Maryland, it seems, got pounded.
Fegan told The BayNet that he had decided that the Aug. 13 showing would be the final Movies on Main Street production.
In Calvert, the Town of North Beach continues to host outdoor movies during the warm weather months. This coming Saturday, Aug. 20 the Movies on the Beach series will present “Wreck It Ralph.” If you missed Jurassic World—or want to see it again—North Beach will be showing it on the beach Sept. 17.
