WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf woman was arrested and charged with multiple misdemeanor offenses after an incident inside a shopping mall in Charles County escalated into a physical confrontation with deputies, according to charging documents.

Court records identify the defendant as Andrea Renee Johnson, 35, of Waldorf. The incident occurred on the evening of Dec. 20, 2025, at the St. Charles Towne Center area, where deputies responded to a reported disturbance inside the mall.

According to the statement of probable cause, deputies encountered Johnson in possession of a rental vehicle that investigators later determined she was not authorized to operate. Authorities reported that Johnson left the scene with the vehicle and returned roughly 30 minutes later. When asked to provide proof she was an approved driver on the rental agreement, Johnson was unable to do so.

Police said Johnson attempted to walk away from deputies and ignored commands to stop, moving into active traffic along Mall Circle and causing vehicles to brake and swerve. During an attempt to detain her, officers reported a physical struggle in which Johnson resisted efforts to be handcuffed, leading to an officer being knocked to the ground and sustaining minor injuries.

Johnson was eventually restrained and taken into custody. Investigators reported additional resistance during the arrest, along with behavior that disrupted traffic flow and nearby businesses.

Johnson was charged with second-degree assault, resisting or interfering with arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstructing and hindering law enforcement. She was released on her own recognizance the same day.

Court records show a trial scheduling hearing is set for Feb. 17, 2026, in Charles County District Court.

  1. Was she pulled over for a traffic infraction? Was this a consensual encounter with police? What was the mayhem that sparked the initial call to the mall? The way this article reads, it sounds like some fabricated charges over some hurt police ego’s.

    1. Did you actually read the article? She was creating a disturbance inside the mall. Hence the response by authorities. Sounds like you support criminal behavior.

  2. Seems to be a fabrication to mess with that person. Where was the person that supposedly reported that this person wasn’t authorized to drive the rental? Why in the HELL did she have to provide proof of be authorized to operate the vehicle. Furthermore, was there an initial disturbance when law enforcement arrived…NO…law enforcement initiated the disturbance due to asking questions about the rental vehicle authorized operation. It’s like asking for my driver’s license and registration without telling me why you need to know. Seems that this was a witch hunt against that lady made worse by law enforcement being TOO DAMN AGGRESSIVE…and anybody that commenting against this woman is bias in more ways than one.
