Mechanicsville Santa Runs Return With Firetruck “Sleigh” And Christmas Music

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Santa Claus is trading in his sleigh for a big red firetruck this December as the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad brings its annual Santa Runs back to neighborhoods across northern St. Mary’s County.

From Dec. 6 through Dec. 14, Santa will roll through local subdivisions atop a decorated firetruck “sleigh,” with an ambulance occasionally leading the way and playing Christmas music over its PA system. Routes will begin between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. and may continue until about 9 p.m., weather and call volume permitting.

Residents are encouraged to listen for sirens and music as Santa approaches. If you live on a small court or cul-de-sac, the department is asking families to walk out to the nearest intersecting road so crews can keep the convoy moving and reach as many homes as possible.

While volunteers will cover a wide area, they won’t be able to visit every street in their first-due territory.

“Please check the schedule to see when Santa will be in your subdivision,” the department said. “Unfortunately, we cannot cover every street and road.”

An online Santa Tracker will be available so families can follow Santa’s progress in real time. Anyone with questions can contact Station 2 at 301-884-4709 or email the department.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, the department is wishing the community a safe and merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
