On Tuesday members of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department were in attendance at the weekly St. Mary’s Board of County Commissioners meeting. President J. Paul Colonna, Assistant Chief Mark Trowbridge and member Joe Guyther were on hand as the department made a donation of twenty five SCOTT self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center for the fire/rescue vocational program.

Since the department was awarded the grant to replace all of their SCBA, the decision was made by the department to donate the equipment to the program. Students enrolled in the fire and rescue curriculum had to utilize equipment from the departments to which they are affiliated. In the past, this has created issues for some companies.

The department looks forward to our continued support of the program and encourages students who want to pursue a career in public safety as a first responder to enroll.
