GREAT MILLS, Md. — MedStar Health is expanding its footprint in southern Maryland with a new urgent care center planned for 45870 East Run Drive, off of Great Mills Road and directly across from Great Mills High School. The facility is listed as “coming soon” and is expected to open later this year.

The standalone facility will offer walk-in medical services for non-life-threatening conditions. It is located about a mile north of Point Lookout Road (MD Route 5), adjacent to MedStar Health Primary Care at Great Mills. Ample free parking will be available on-site.

Designed to serve the growing population of St. Mary’s County, the Great Mills center will provide a broad range of services, including:

  • On-site lab testing
  • Full-body x-rays with on-site interpretation
  • EKGs
  • PCR testing with immediate results for strep, flu, COVID-19, and RSV
  • STD testing, including rapid results for females
  • Rapid HIV testing for both males and females
  • Telehealth consultations with specialty providers in cardiology, emergency medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pediatrics, and spine care
  • Language interpretation services, including American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Seamless connection to the MedStar Health hospital, primary care, and specialty care network
  • Acceptance of most private insurance plans, as well as Maryland Medicare and Medicaid, supplemental insurance, and self-pay options

Patients will also benefit from integration with the broader MedStar Health system—the largest healthcare network in the region—enabling streamlined access to hospitals, primary care, and specialty providers.

Most private insurance plans will be accepted, along with Maryland Medicare and Medicaid, supplemental insurance, and self-pay options.

Once operational, the Great Mills location is expected to help reduce pressure on area emergency departments and provide local residents with improved access to urgent care, particularly during evenings and weekends.

MedStar Health currently operates more than 30 urgent care centers across the region, including one in nearby California, Md. The addition of the Great Mills site marks another step in the system’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to timely, community-based care in Southern Maryland.

MedStar is actively hiring for several positions at the new center, including patient service coordinators, according to recent listings on its careers site and third-party job boards. Interested applicants can explore current openings at medstarhealth.org/careers.

  1. This place will be terrible just like the hospital. I leave county for all my medical appointments.
