The Miss Tranquility and Lord Calvert contest is open to all Calvert County residents between the ages of 16 and 19. According to the contest application, winners are chosen “not only based on public speaking ability and poise, but also on scholastic achievement and participation in school and community activities.” Applicants submit their transcripts, essays and a questionnaire. They also present a speech and participate in a personal interview.
Winners are granted a scholarship of $1,250, and runners-up receive a $500 scholarship and are required to be present at the fair throughout the week. Miss Tranquility and Lord Calvert may also represent the county at other events throughout the year, so chances are this won’t be the last time you see them.
