UPDATE – 7/24/2024 – St. Mary’s EMS Chief Suspected In Fentanyl Tampering Case
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the St. Mary’s County Government Department of Emergency Services contacted the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and reported suspected tampering with the security seal on a narcotics box in a local medic unit.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division responded, and the investigation revealed that the seal on a medic box containing vials of fentanyl had been broken. Further investigation uncovered that the security packaging on fentanyl vials within the medic box had also been compromised. In response to these findings, detectives conducted simultaneous investigations at all county medic units. This effort led to the discovery of additional tampering incidents involving multiple narcotics boxes.
Despite the extensive scope of the investigation and the widespread evidence, detectives have identified a suspect, and charges are pending.
Questions regarding public health concerns should be directed to the Department of Emergency Services; representatives from the department will directly contact any individual whose care may have been impacted by this incident.
Residents with information about the criminal investigation are asked to contact Sergeant Kevin Meyer at Kevin.Meyer@stmaryscountymd.gov or call 301-475-4200, ext. 8091.

Would make sense for users to be closer to the source.
Years back I had surgery at Washington Hospital Center. I had significant post operative pain and was given narcotic injections. The pain wouldn’t go down and I was in agony. The nurse gave me another dose in my IV. After awhile I wasn’t getting any relief and I was really beside myself in pain. Finally another nurse asked the doctor if I could be given additional meds and he was really surprised at how much I had been given with no effect. Normally when given IV narcotics I’ve always smelled something weird and get nauseous. Neither had happened.
Finally the other nurse gives me meds in my IV and I got immediate relief.
When I stabilized enough to be sent home the nurse who had initially taken care of my couldn’t even speak right let alone give me post op instructions.
My spouse is a nurse and both of us are convinced the first nurse diverted my meds to herself. She was so wasted and I was furious she had done this to me. How many other patients had she taken their meds from and allowed them to be in agony?
Wow, fentanyl, that’s what felonious George Floyd was on, when he wouldn’t get out of the car. Must be some good stuff.
Does the county have mandatory urinalysis for the people that have access to these drug boxes?
