The Port Tobacco Archaeological Project will present its latest findings at a public meeting held at the Port Tobacco Courthouse on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 7:30ย p.m. to 9 p.m.
Archaeologist Jim Gibb, managing director of the project, will summarize discoveries made at the old county jail, the โlost townโ of Chandler, and a historic period Indian site that may be the village of Port Tobacco visited by Captain John Smith of Jamestown in 1608.
The presentation will close with a brief discussion of a proposed interpretive trail that will link these sites to others in the area.
