Governor Oโ€™Malley today wished the Ravens luck as they enter the playoffs and announced โ€œPurple Fridayโ€ for state employees.ย 

โ€œWe are extremely excited to celebrate the Baltimore Ravensโ€™ playoff run for four years in a row,โ€ said Governor Oโ€™Malley. โ€œPurple fever has taken over our communities and we are looking forward to celebrating the Ravensโ€™ continued success in the playoffs as they go on to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy.โ€ย 

Governor Oโ€™Malley announced that tomorrow and next Friday, January 13th will be โ€œPurple Fridayโ€ for all state employees, where employees will be allowed to dress down in support of the Ravens and wear their team gear to work. The Governor also requested that the 6 St. Paul State office building in Baltimore be lit purple effective today and Government House be illuminated in purple starting next Friday. The Maryland.gov,ย  Governor , Lt. Governor and First Ladyโ€™s web sites are also draped in Ravens purple to honor the team and show the stateโ€™s support in their quest for the Super Bowl.ย 

The AFC North Champion Baltimore Ravens are in their fourth straight year in the playoffs, enjoying a first round bye as the number two seed in the AFC. They will face the winner of this Saturdayโ€™s games in the NFL playoffs next Sunday.
