LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – More than two dozen people showed up at a public forum this week to speak about the possibility of eviction from the Lord Calvert Mobile Home Park in Lexington Park.
Back in 2012, a plan was introduced to redevelop the largest mobile home park in the county into East Run. The plan was to build two five-story buildings that would include 127 new single-family homes and 500 apartments.
Residents and their supporters attended the public forum in an effort to save their homes including one young person who shared the story of his father passing away last year and his mother working hard to support their family. He told the St. Mary’s County commissioners, “I’m begging you guys, please, don’t take away our homes.”
Commissioner Michael Hewitt said at the end of the forum that he wanted to visit the community and give them an update on how they are trying to help.
“We’ve been working with the Department of Housing and Community Development” to look at alternative housing options for those who will be impacted in the Lord Calvert community,” Hewitt said.

The owner of the mobile home park, Cherry Cove, did send residents a letter explaining there was no planned development or permits filed and said they are required to give residents one year’s notice before any work begins.
Recently, Segall Group, a progressive commercial real estate firm, published plans to attract investors to that area. The online brochure shows commercial pad sites available in new residential and mixed-use developments at the intersection of Chancellors Run Road and Great Mills Road.
The BayNet reached out to the Segall group and the mobile home park’s owner but has not received a response. Look for updates on this story soon.
Meantime, residents are being encouraged to attend a Town Hall meeting on February 10th at 1 pm, hosted by Commissioner Scott Ostrow at the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department.

This really pisses me off. They don’t want alternatives; they want to keep THEIR homes! There are more apartments and townhomes and low income homes. Tell my why these people need to loos their homes? They are comfortable living where they are and this county doesn’t need more housing built. IMO this is total BS!!! With the shi*** economy I am sure that some of these people are terrified of how they will pay their bills in some other place. With the biden administration destroying us as a country, and the economy, I wouldn’t want to chance moving to some other place. It’s scary for people on fixed incomes. Plus I would rather live in a trailer than an apartment or townhome. I did that one time and it was the absolute worst housing decision that I ever made. I don’t think I know anyone that lives there, but I feel for them being put out of their homes. Saying that you will find alternative housing for them is just plauin ARROGANT!
