MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — We are receiving reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian at the Maryland International Raceway.

At approximately 6:31 p.m. on July 23, first responders were alerted to an accident which took place at the starting line for the race. Our reports indicate that a 61-year-old male pedestrian was struck by a motorcycle as a race began.

EMS crews were able to render aid soon after the accident took place. We have no word on the status of the patient’s injuries at this time.
