Kalia Crews

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — An off-duty Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department sergeant has been charged following an alleged road-rage incident on U.S. Route 50 in which a crowbar and a firearm were reportedly brandished, according to Maryland State Police.

The accused, Kalia Crews, 29, of Annapolis, was arrested this week and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or violent crime, court records show. She was transported to the Jennifer Road Detention Center following her arrest.

The charges stem from an incident reported on Dec. 18, 2025, along westbound Route 50 near Interstate 97. According to Maryland State Police, troopers from the Annapolis Barrack responded after a victim reported being involved in a road-rage encounter during which the suspect allegedly displayed a crowbar and later a firearm. The victim was not injured.

Troopers assigned to the Maryland State Police Highway Gun Crime Initiative assumed the investigation and later identified Crews as the suspect, police said.

On Dec. 31, state troopers arrested Crews near her residence. Police said a search warrant was executed on her vehicle, where investigators recovered a loaded firearm inside a backpack on the front passenger seat.

Court records indicate the charges were filed with findings of probable cause. Crews was released on her own recognizance following a bond review hearing held Jan. 1, 2026.

Maryland State Police said they continue to investigate reports of gun-related incidents on state highways and encouraged anyone with information related to highway gun crimes to contact investigators at 410-538-1887.

  1. That happened up in Annapolis. Down in St Mary’s county SMCSO & Leonardtown MSP have been doing a great job cleaning up the county. I haven’t heard of a drive by shooting on Great Mills Rd for a while. The carjacking that was around FDR in the area of Sheetz is gone. Royal Farms did have a problem by the main gate, But the road cops will take care of that quickly. I have even noticed MSP & SMCSO road cops actively enforcing the traffic laws. SERRA HOTEL to both.
