Wednesday, September 10, 2025, 5 to 7 p.m. Beach Elementary School (Cafeteria) 7900 Old Bayside Road, Chesapeake Beach, MD
CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — The U.S. Navy will host an Open House to inform the community about its efforts to test private drinking water wells near Naval Research Laboratory – Chesapeake Bay Detachment (NRL-CBD) for certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). PFAS are present in the groundwater at NRL-CBD and may be present in drinking water wells due to past use of a firefighting agent called aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). The meeting will feature detailed informational displays about private drinking water sampling near NRL-CBD.
The Navy is working in partnership with the Maryland Department of the Environment and Calvert County Health Department. Representatives from these partnering agencies will also be available to answer questions and provide information.
If your drinking water comes from a private drinking water well located in the sampling areas the Navy is requesting to sample your well, at no cost to you. You may schedule a drinking water well sampling appointment at the meeting, by calling and leaving a message at (833) 483-2637, or by emailing NAVFAC_WASH_PublicAffairsOffice@us.navy.mil. Please include your name, sample property address, and phone number.
We are committed to keeping the public informed of the Navy’s private drinking water sampling. For more information, please visit our website at:
