ย The Presidential Election this year is proving to be huge, especially considering that it started last year.

ย It’s no secret which way I lean politically. But, I’ll try to keep this general.

ย One of the most important things for people to do this year is conduct their own research. If you were to go solely on what the media is saying, than the candidates were chosen last year: Hillary Clinton for the Democrats and Rudy Giuliani for the Republicans. No one seemed to choose the President, because some were saying that Hillary has earned it, but Rudy would be the one that could beat her.

ย That, obviously now, isn’t the case. Rudy is out, and Barack Obama is a viable candidate. This is where it becomes critical for a person to do some research and explore different outlets to find out about the candidates.

ย The hot topics right now are the economy, border control, health care, and the war is in there as well. Some of the candidates are phenomenal speakers, but it’s important to hear what they’re saying. Someone may love listening to one candidate speak, and then vote for them based on their speaking ability. But, once elected, might question why they voted for that person, and realize they don’t agree with anything the candidate stands for.

ย Of course the economy is one of the big things right now. It’s important for a person to look at the candidates stand on the tax cuts, how they voted on them, if they were involved in it. Looking at the outrage in this state when sales tax and some others were going up, it seems rather obvious people’s feelings on that topic.

ย Illegal immigration is another hot topic issue. One of the problems with this, however, is people confusing legal with illegal. I personally don’t know anyone who is opposed to people coming to this country. I’ll say it: We live in one of the greatest nations on the planet. Quite frankly, it must be considering how many people try to come here, and also the number who risk their lives to come here by doing it illegally. Border control is crucial in this.

ย There were bills in the Congress last year which, any way you slice it, amounted to amnesty for millions of people. This was tried in the 1980’s, with supporters saying it would “fix the problem”. Well, here we are 20 years later and it still exists.

ย With health care, many people are saying it should be socialized. That would not be good. Some countries that have socialized health care are starting to move away from it. If anything, the government should get out of the health care system, and let it run like any other business.

ย Time to get partisan for a moment on the war.

ย In one of the early Democrat debates, the question was raised if they would have all the troops out of Iraq by 2013, the end of their first term. The two front runners, Hillary and Barack, would not guarantee they would. This is interesting considering that they say they will do an immediate withdrawal.

ย Well, it seems to depend who Hillary is talking to as to what she would do.

ย To reiterate what I said in the beginning, do your own research and choose the person you want, not the one the media says you want. Find out where the person stands on issues that are important to you, and make your selection from that.
