Overnight Work will Minimize Traffic Impacts
Beginning this evening the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin resurfacing the MD 4 (Patuxent Beach Road) southern approach to the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge.ย SHA expects to complete all work within a week, weather permitting.
Work will include milling, resurfacing and restriping.ย Crews will work overnights from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.ย A single lane closure and flagging operation will be in place to guide motorists safely through the work zone.ย
This project is funded under a $6.1 million multi-project โareawideโ resurfacing contract awarded to Bardon/Aggregate Industries of Greenbelt.ย The contract also includes resurfacing more than two miles of MD 246 (Great Mills Road) from MD 5 to St. Maryโs Square. This work began in March and is scheduled to be completed by the end of April.
While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers need to actively modify their driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert โ look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
