Retired Officer Joins St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Office as Court Security Deputy

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office welcomed Deputy Brian Kearse as its newest contract Court Security Officer during a swearing-in ceremony held on April 21, 2025, outside the Old Jail Museum, adjacent to the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court.

Deputy Kearse, a retired law enforcement officer from a neighboring jurisdiction, joins the agency with extensive experience in public safety and court operations.

Sheriff Steve Hall and members of the Sheriff’s Office were in attendance to mark the occasion. The Oath of Office was administered by The Honorable Debra Burch, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court.

“Deputy Kearse brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism to our team,” Hall said. “We are proud to welcome him to our court security division.”

Kearse will assist with maintaining safety and order during court proceedings as part of his new role.
