Richard William “Dick” Fischer, 88, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 22, 1937, Dick was a lifelong Maryland resident whose life was defined by service, dedication, and devotion to family. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1955 and proudly served as a Radarman until 1958. He continued his military service in the United States Naval Reserve through 1961.
Following his military service, Dick began a distinguished career with the Maryland State Police, serving the citizens of Maryland for 33 years. Throughout his career, he was known for his professionalism, integrity, and steadfast commitment to public service.
Although he spent the last three years of his life in Mechanicsville, Dick called the State of Maryland home throughout his entire life. He loved his state, his community, and the many friendships he built over the years.
Dick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Fischer, whom he married in 1963 and who passed away in 1996; his beloved granddaughter, Alyssa Rae Alexander, who passed away in 1998; and his sister, Joyce Gray, who passed away in 2009.
Dick is survived by his children, Debbie Fischer, Helen Fischer (Tammie), Jo Anne Alexander (David), and Richard Nizer (Julie); his grandchildren, Ann-Marie Moses (Shawn), Sean Manning (Lisa), Taylor Wilson (Tyler), Dakota “Koty” Keys, Trinity Alexander, and Laine Fischer; his great-grandchildren, Ellie Mae Moses, Jaxson Wilson, Fischer Moses, Everleigh Wilson, Isla Manning, and Hayes Moses; and many extended family members, friends, former colleagues, and fellow service members who will miss him dearly.
Dick’s legacy is one of honor, service, and love. Whether serving his country in the Navy, protecting Maryland’s citizens as a Maryland State Trooper, or spending time with those he loved most, he lived a life marked by duty, strength of character, and quiet dedication.
Those who knew Dick will also remember his wonderful sense of humor and the smile he could bring to any gathering. Family and friends fondly recall his unique way with words and his habit of mispronouncing certain names and phrases, creating countless stories that will be retold for generations. Among the most memorable was his affection for “Macedonia Nut Cookies,” his name for macadamia nut cookies, a simple example of the charm and laughter he brought to those around him.
He will be remembered not only for the example he set and the lives he touched, but also for the joy, warmth, and laughter he shared with family and friends throughout his life.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, a memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with prayers beginning at 7:00 pm, and will be officiated by Chaplain Charlie Wharton at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
