Santaโ€™s sleigh could be a little light this year without some help from the Calvert County community. Toys for Tots of Calvert County is once again trying to help as many less fortunate children as possible have a more festive Christmas.

The need is great this holiday season with a combination of high unemployment and a slow economy limiting charitable giving.ย  More than 460 local children received toys through Toys for Tots last year.ย  This season the number of local families seeking support is expected to double.

Toys for Tots of Calvert County provides toys for children, infant to 18 years old.ย  Historically, we have experienced shortfalls in donations for the 11 and older age group and the infant to two year olds.ย  Sports equipment, skateboards, makeup kits and small electronics (mp3 players, cameras, handheld video games) make great choices for pre-teens and teens.ย  Donations of push toys, sensory toys, sorting and stacking toys, ride on toys and activity playmats would be greatly appreciated for our younger โ€œtots.โ€

New, unwrapped toys will be collected through December 13th at over 75 drop-off sites located throughout Calvert County. Cash donations are also being accepted at all drop-off locations.ย  The entire list of drop-off locations is available online at www.CalvertToysForTots.com. ย Monetary donations are also accepted on the website.ย  All donations received in Calvert County are distributed within the county.

For families in need of gifts, registration for the 2012 Toys for Tots campaign closes Friday, December 7th and can only be completed online at www.CalvertToysforTots.com. ย Recipients must be residents of Calvert County who are not also receiving assistance through the Department of Social Services Angel Tree Program.
