A couple of friends who frequently play Maryland Lottery games together almost missed a $1 million Monopoly scratch-off winner!
The Anne Arundel County residents purchased an instant ticket last week at Frankโs Den in Glen Burnie and scratched it off together. Somehow, they both missed the matching number on the $20 Monopoly ticket and decided to enter it into My Lottery Rewards as a non-winning ticket.
โI tried to enter it into my My Lottery Rewards account yesterday, but it wouldnโt accept the ticket,โ said winner #1. โI figured something was wrong. It never crossed my mind that it was a winner, but I scanned it to check it anyway. Iโm glad I did because thatโs how we learned it was a $1 million winner!โ
Winner #1 showed the ticket to her husband for confirmation and had him scan it on his phone to make sure it wasnโt a glitch on her phone. She then called winner #2, who was in disbelief. The ecstatic friends, who are very thankful for the Lotteryโs player rewards program, chose the cash option for the $1 million scratch-off prize. They both plan to make smart decisions with their windfall.
โI look forward to buying a new car and putting a down payment on my first house,โ said winner #2, with a big smile on his face. Winner #1 plans to make some home improvements.
The lucky retailer, Frankโs Den at 1814 Crain Highway in Glen Burnie, is a winner too! For selling the $1 million top-prize ticket, the Anne Arundel County business will receive a $1,000 bonus.
The $20 Monopoly scratch-off is a member of the Monopoly Family of Games. Players can still win lots of prizes on the trio of Monopoly scratch-offs, which include a $5 Monopoly game and a $1 Monopoly game.
