On Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at approximately 6:45 pm, there was a report of a building fire on Bourne Road.ย
The Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department (Co. 5), Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department (Co. 6) as well as others responded to the call.ย As units arrived on the scene, they found a shed approximately 10 x 12 on fire.ย The Chief Officer (6A – Montgomery) held company 5 and 6 units and placed all other units in service.
The fire was quickly knocked down and controlled and overhaul was done afterward to remove burned and burning material as well as checking for any areas that could still be at risk.
The cause of the fire was reported as a lighting strike from a storm that had just gone through the area, but investigation of the cause is still being determined.
