PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – A December 15, 2024, altercation at the Calvert County Detention Center has led to second-degree assault charges against Brian Thornel Elzey, also known as “Juice,” following an investigation into the incident. Elzey, a 22-year-old inmate from Upper Marlboro, is alleged to have assaulted another inmate during a confrontation in K-Block of the detention center.

According to the report, the incident began when Elzey confronted another inmate over “staring” inappropriately. After a brief verbal exchange, Elzey allegedly slapped the other inmate on the left side of the face with an open hand. Following the confrontation, a third inmate advised the victim to leave K-Block, raising concerns about ongoing safety within the housing unit.

Surveillance footage reviewed by law enforcement corroborated the victim’s account. The video showed Elzey slapping the victim at the threshold of Cell #3, with the victim’s reaction and subsequent return to their cell clearly visible. The video, slowed down for review, confirmed the sequence of events as described in the report.

Elzey was charged with second-degree assault under Maryland law and served the appropriate paperwork. Court records indicate the case, titled “State of Maryland vs. Brian Thornel Elzey,” remains open. The charge, classified as a misdemeanor, is being prosecuted by the State’s Attorney for Calvert County. Elzey is represented by the Public Defender’s Office of Calvert County, which entered its appearance on December 17, 2024.

Initial court filings show that Elzey was already in custody at the time of the incident. A $2,000 percentage bond was set on December 16 in connection with the new charges. During a bail review hearing the following day, Judge Robyn Riddle authorized release on recognizance. The trial has been scheduled for February 13, 2025, in Courtroom 1 at the Calvert District Court.

  1. Let me get this straight…already in jail, commits more crimes while in jail and gets out on his own P.R. How are these criminals supposed to learn if there is NO consequences for their actions.
