SOLOMONS, Md. — Solomons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, in partnership with the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 11, to commemorate the expansion of its facility, increasing its number of certified beds from 95 to 105. The event marked a milestone in the center’s more than 30-year history of providing skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation services in Calvert County.
The ceremony took place at the center’s location at 13325 Dowell Road and drew local leaders, county officials, and community members who gathered to recognize the facility’s continued commitment to high-quality, compassionate care.

Commissioner Mike Hart praised the center’s longstanding role in the community. “Solomons Nursing & Rehabilitation has been part of Calvert County’s community since 1994, offering compassionate, high-quality care to residents and their families for more than 30 years,” Hart said. “With a team of over 200 dedicated employees, this continuing care community plays a vital role in our local healthcare system.”
Hart also noted the center’s recent accolades, including a 96% recommendation rate in the 2024 Family Experience of Care survey—well above the state average of 70%. “That kind of excellence doesn’t happen by accident,” he said. “It reflects years of commitment, strong leadership and a dedicated team.”

Fellow County Commissioner Todd Ireland presented a proclamation on behalf of the Calvert County Board of Commissioners. “Congratulations, Solomons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and thank you for choosing Calvert County,” he said.
Kathy Maney, president and CEO of the Calvert County Chamber of Commerce, offered remarks on her long-standing relationship with the center. “I have never met a more hardworking group of people,” Maney said. “This is absolutely amazing. You take care of your employees, and I think that’s so very important. We’re happy that you stayed, we’re happy that you’re here.”

Dean Smith, the center’s administrator, expressed gratitude to the event’s attendees and recognized the many local officials, staff members, and partners who supported the expansion. “I just wanted to offer some acknowledgment for the folks that are here with us,” Smith said before introducing the ribbon-cutting and inviting guests to tour the upgraded facility.
Ari Stern, owner of GreenTree Health Care Management, which acquired the center in 2020, reflected on the facility’s transformation. “It was an easy transition—it’s a beautiful community—but for us, it was very heavy on our shoulders that we had a level of excellence to upkeep,” Stern said. “We also wanted to move the facility forward… more into the 21st century and make it more feel homey for those who are staying here.”

Stern emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between clinical excellence and creating a homelike atmosphere. “We try to deinstitutionalize the nursing home… to make it where someone can come and be living in as much as a homelike setting as they can.”
The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting led by Maney and a tour of the remodeled facility, accompanied by refreshments and an opportunity to meet with staff.
