Charles County Sheriff’s officers were conducting radar on Chicamuxen Road near Marbury Run Road in Indian Head on March 10 when a Chevrolet Cavalier sped past them at 83 mph in a 50 mph zone.
Officer S. Cartwright attempted to stop the Cavalier but the driver accelerated, turned off his vehicle lights and turned onto Sweetman Road where the officer lost sight of him.
Officers J. Timko and S. Davis found the Cavalier shortly after parked on Empire Place.
A resident of the home, Charles Cornell Johnson, Jr., 18, was identified as the driver who attempted to elude police. Officers arrested Johnson and charged him with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, negligent driving, speeding, turning off vehicle lights to avoid identification and other traffic violations.
Johnson was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.
