MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A tense custody dispute turned violent in Mechanicsville, leading to the arrest of 31-year-old Anthony Michael Terrell after he allegedly attacked a man with a baseball bat.

The incident took place on March 11, 2025, on Washington Road, starting as a verbal dispute before escalating into a violent assault that left one man with visible injuries.

According to court documents, Maryland State Police responded to a 911 call reporting an active fight involving two men—one allegedly armed with a bat—attacking a victim. Upon arrival, troopers met with the victim, who told investigators he had been “jumped” by two men, later identified as Anthony Terrell and Michael Troy Terrell.

The confrontation reportedly began when Michael Troy Terrell called the child’s mother, requesting to pick up his child for visitation. She refused, prompting an angry response from Terrell, who allegedly threatened to come to the residence and take the child himself.

After the call, Michael and Anthony Terrell arrived at the home, where the child’s grandfather confronted them outside. According to the victim, the situation escalated when Anthony Terrell exited the vehicle holding a green aluminum baseball bat. A verbal argument soon turned physical, with both Terrells allegedly attacking him. Witnesses stated that Anthony Terrell struck the victim multiple times with the bat, hitting his left rib cage and head, while Michael Terrell punched him repeatedly.

During the altercation, the victim managed to wrestle the bat away from Anthony Terrell, causing the struggle to move to the ground. The suspects then reportedly fled the scene, leaving the weapon behind. When authorities arrived, the victim had visible lacerations and bruising on both sides of his face and was bleeding from the left side of his head.

A witness to the attack confirmed the victim’s account. She told police that she had refused Michael Terrell’s request due to a scheduling conflict, which led to his aggressive response. She also stated that she attempted to intervene to protect her father before he managed to gain control of the weapon.

Troopers later located and arrested Anthony Terrell at his residence on Dogwood Circle in Mechanicsville. During questioning, Terrell claimed the victim had been the aggressor, stating that he attacked them first. However, investigators noted that Terrell had a laceration on his head but could not explain how he sustained the injury. Authorities also discovered that Terrell had an outstanding warrant with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Terrell was taken into custody and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. He was charged with first-degree assault, a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison. A judge ordered Terrell held without bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 10, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 2 of the St. Mary’s District Court.

  1. That apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Sounds like he’s following in his father’s footsteps.

    1. I know these boys. Decently well, actually. I’m extremely surprised with Anthony’s behavior. There are some things he knows, he should stay out of. This being one of them. From what I’ve gathered, they haven’t found Troy. But I agree with you, it doesn’t make sense. There’s a huge possibility that, neither of them, will ever see their kids again. I know it’s frustrating, not to see your kid when you want, but this was too far. So, instead of accepting not seeing your kid for that one day; they both decided to take matters in their own hands. Making the choice to never see their kids again. Because the mother’s of all 4 of those kids can now file for full custody, and terminate their rights to see the kids. ESPECIALLY, because this incident involved a child. This is so sad. I feel really bad for Anthony’s oldest child. Poor boy doesn’t deserve to go through this. At his age (12), this is still a very hard concept to grasp. B will wonder why his father chose violence for his cousin, and not think about the fact that his own kids would be at stake for this. Especially since, as far as I can remember, Anthony never did something like this for B or C (leaving names out, because they are minors, and I don’t feel it safe for their full names to be dropped.) now, as far as K and K, I’m not surprised with Troy. He has been in quite a few physical fights, over small things. I, also, feel terrible for Angel. This will scar her for life. She didn’t deserve to be in this situation. Conflicts happen. Especially, with younger kids. K could’ve been sick, she could’ve been invited to a birthday party, she could’ve been visiting other family. I do not know what the conflict was. But I do know, it was not worth losing their kids over. Maryland doesn’t play with these things. It is possible, that Anthony will have to serve those 25 years. My question is: where is Troy? He’s fled and let his brother, who was his ride or die, sit in jail, when had Troy not said anything, Anthony wouldn’t have been involved. I can’t figure out how it makes sense to get a FELONY over your brother’s kid, when he had his own kids to worry about.

  2. Violence is uncalled for but here is another mother weaponizing her child because she mad at baby daddy. There are no father’s rights in Maryland.
