St. Michael’s School Hosts First-Ever Candy Cane Lane

RIDGE, Md. – The Ridge community was glowing with holiday cheer this weekend as St. Michael’s School hosted its first-ever Candy Cane Lane — a festive celebration that brought together families, students, parish members, and neighbors to welcome the Christmas season.

Held at the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, the event transformed the space into a cozy holiday village lined with vendors, twinkling decor and the joyful buzz of community connection.

Event organizer Amanda Cullison said her vision was simple: create something unforgettable and rooted in community.

“Candy Cane Lane was everything we hoped it would be. It was joyful, warm and full of connection,” she said. “Seeing our community come together to support St. Michael’s like this reminded me why events like this matter.”

Throughout the event, families browsed local vendor tables offering treats, crafts and unique holiday gifts. Children’s excitement filled the room as Santa and his merry elves posed for photos, shared laughs, enjoyed hot cocoa and spread Christmas magic.

SMS Principal Mary Van Ryswick said the night reflected the heart of the school itself.

“Candy Cane Lane truly showcased the heart of St. Michael’s,” she shared. “Our school thrives because of the families, volunteers and community members who show up with so much love and support. I would also like to share a heartfelt, special thank-you to the Ridge Volunteer Fire Department for generously providing the space and helping make the celebration possible.”

Guests echoed that sentiment. Dawn Garland, who attended with her family, said the event exceeded her expectations.

“The event turned out amazing. I was so impressed! What a wonderful community event,” she said. “A big way to go to all involved and a huge thank you.”

As families headed home carrying holiday treats, photos and warm memories, one thing was clear: Candy Cane Lane has sparked a new tradition—one that celebrates not just the season, but the strength and spirit of the Ridge community.

St. Michael’s School continues to thrive, growing both academically and in enrollment. Families interested in learning more about the school, its programs and upcoming events can visit www.smsridgemd.org or call 301-872-5454 to schedule a tour.
