
OWINGS, Md. — New Directions Theater is inviting local talent to audition for its upcoming production of The Glass Menagerie this March. Dates/Locations for upcoming events have been announced as follows:
Thursday, March 18 6-8PM Fairview Library (Owings)
Saturday, March 21 10AM- Noon Prince Frederick Library
Character Descriptions:
Tom Wingfield
The narrator and protagonist
Works in a shoe warehouse but dreams of becoming a writer
Feels torn between duty to his family and his desire for freedom
Represents the conflict between responsibility and escape
Amanda Wingfield
Tom and Laura’s mother
A former Southern belle who clings to memories of her youth
Controlling, talkative, and deeply anxious about her children’s futures
Symbolizes denial and the struggle to survive in changing times
Laura Wingfield
Tom’s sister
Shy, socially anxious, and physically disabled
Retreats into her collection of glass animals (the “glass menagerie”)
Represents fragility, innocence, and vulnerability
Jim O’Connor
Tom’s coworker and Laura’s former high school crush
Confident, practical, and optimistic
Represents realism and the outside world
His engagement crushes Amanda’s and Laura’s hopes
