At 6:28 pm, on March 16, members of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office Community Policing (COPS) Unit were conducting surveillance on McCoy Drive in Waldorf and observed several hand-to-hand drug deals occur.

Daniel Tyrone Knott, 27, of Waldorf was seen selling drugs to individuals in two cars. Patrol officers responded to the area to stop Knott and the two vehicles involved in the drug transactions.

Tyrone Lawrence Bryant, 22, of Waldorf, the occupant of one of the vehicles, attempted to flee on foot. When Officer C. Black apprehended him, a struggle ensued during which he attempted to take the officerโ€™s handgun from its holster.

Sgt. C. Stillwell intervened and placed the suspect in custody. A search subsequent to Bryantโ€™s arrest revealed he was in possession of a large amount of cocaine and cash. He was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, assault, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Knott was also found to be in possession of cocaine. He was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Both were being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before a district court commissioner.

Sgt. Stillwell injured his hand during the struggle with Bryant and was treated at Civista Medical Center. Officer T. Hemsley investigated.
