GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Two years after a woman was kidnapped, locked in the trunk of her car and thrown into Curtis Creek, Anne Arundel County police say they have identified the suspects and issued warrants for their arrests.
The case began April 15, 2023, when officers responded to a Baltimore business after reports that a woman had been attacked hours earlier in Glen Burnie. Investigators said the victim was dropping off a friend on Milton Avenue around 2:30 a.m. when a man and woman approached her. The female suspect, with help from a male accomplice, forced the victim into the trunk of her black 2012 Mercedes sedan and drove away.
The victim was later pulled from the trunk on Pennington Avenue, where she was thrown off a bridge into Curtis Creek. She swam to safety, was helped by bystanders and treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled in her vehicle.
After a lengthy investigation, detectives identified 35-year-old Crystal Humphries of Halethorpe and 39-year-old David Jiles of Baltimore as the attackers. Arrest warrants charge Humphries with carjacking, kidnapping and related offenses. Jiles is charged with attempted first- and second-degree murder in addition to carjacking and kidnapping.
Both suspects remain at large. Police said leads have been exhausted and are urging the public to help locate them. Anyone with information is asked to call the Northern District Detective Unit at 410-222-6135.
Anonymous tips can be submitted to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-LOCKUP, with rewards of up to $2,000 available for information leading to their arrests.
