A Little History Of The Newtowne Players

The Newtowne Players began as a passionate group of theater enthusiasts led by founding Artistic Director Wendy Heidrich and a dedicated executive council, determined to bring live performance to Southern Maryland. Their very first production was staged in the basement of the former Do-Dah Deli in Leonardtown, and early performances even spilled into local streets and community venues as they searched for a permanent home. That long-standing goal was realized when the group transformed a former public library into Three Notch Theatre in 2005, creating a fully volunteer-built venue complete with seating, a revolving stage, dressing rooms and a lobby. Today, The Newtowne Players remain a community theater rooted in inclusion and artistic exploration, striving to make theater accessible and memorable for all who step through their doors.
