SAINT INIGOES, Md. — What began as a quiet ribbon-cutting on Saturday has already turned into a buzz of excitement in Southern Maryland’s tattoo scene as The Nook Tattoo Studio officially opened its doors this weekend.
“We kicked it off by tattooing our giveaway winners, did a ribbon cutting with our friends and family, and then ended the night with an after party full of good food and surprise gifts,” owners shared in a recent Facebook post that expressed heartfelt thanks to early supporters. “We are genuinely overwhelmed. The flowers. The messages. The bookings … this meant more than we can put into words.”
Located at 48673 Trapp Road in Saint Inigoes, The Nook offers clients a distinctly different tattoo experience, one centered on comfort, choice and communication. From the moment clients step inside, the studio’s philosophy is clear: tattoos should be made comfortable.
“We know that everyone’s body and nervous system reacts differently,” said studio spokespersons on their website. “So comfort isn’t an afterthought, it’s part of how we tattoo.”
The studio’s website lays out a range of comfort-focused options that set it apart from traditional tattoo environments. In addition to flexibility with breaks and positioning, The Nook offers quiet sessions, sensory support like music or TV, and even welcomes clients to bring a support person. Complimentary drinks and light snacks are available to help ease first-time jitters.

That focus on client well-being is deeply rooted in the backgrounds of the artists themselves. One of the founders, Kar, draws on years in mental health work to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, prioritizing collaboration and thoughtful design that clients will feel proud to wear for life. Another artist, Faith, who lives with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), brings lived experience to her approach, making sessions calm and anxiety-free for clients of all backgrounds.
“We price tattoos based on design, size, placement and time involved,” The Nook notes, emphasizing clear communication and consent-based pacing throughout the process. While the studio is primarily appointment-only to maintain a calm atmosphere, occasional walk-in openings may be announced on social media.
For many in Southern Maryland, The Nook offers something they say was missing in the local tattoo landscape: a space where artistic expertise meets intentional comfort and support.
“This is just the beginning,” the owners wrote, and after a weekend of celebration, bookings and community enthusiasm, it seems many in the region are ready to make their next mark at The Nook.

10 years ago that building was a deli/general store. They made the BEST burgers in the county. I miss that place….
I know, not a relevant comment about tattoos, don’t care, let me have my food nostalgia.
