THINGS TO DO IN CALVERT COUNTY

Solomons Dragon Boat Festival Weekend on Aug. 15–16, located in Solomons, MD – Kick off the celebration Friday at 6 p.m. with the Dotting of the Eye Ceremony at Our Lady Star of the Sea School, a tradition to awaken the dragon boats before race day. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy races on the Patuxent River, kids’ activities, vendor village, face painting, live entertainment, and an awards ceremony along the Solomons waterfront near the Calvert Marine Museum. Free admission.

SAM HUNT and opener Austin Williams, Perform Live! on Aug. 16 (5:30 p.m.), located at CMM’s Motto Mortgage Preferred and RE/MAX One Waterside Pavilion, Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Country music superstar Sam Hunt takes the stage with support from viral sensation Austin Williams in an electrifying evening of chart-topping hits. Bay Adventures on Aug. 16 (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), located at Walton Beach Park, 1108 Walnut Avenue, North Beach, MD – Join a hands-on exploration at Walton’s Beach Nature Preserve. Search for fossils, use a seine net to find aquatic creatures, and help return a stranded horseshoe crab to the Bay. Participants should bring water, sunscreen, old clothes, and water shoes. No on-site parking; use the public lot by the library or 7th St. & Bay and walk to the preserve. Free or low-cost.

DMV Music Festival 2025 on Aug. 16 (noon to 8 p.m.), located at Calvert County Fairgrounds, 140 Calvert Fair Drive, Prince Frederick, MD – Catch live performances by Project 360 Band, Major League Band, Rappa & 32 What? Band, Obsession Band, and New Impressionz Band, with sounds by DJ Widebody and hosted by OT Kanye. Tickets start at $25.

Firefighter Appreciation Cruise on Aug. 21 (3:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.), departing from Solomons Island, 14443 Solomons Island Rd, Solomons, MD – Set sail on a tiki-themed evening cruise dedicated to honoring the bravery and service of our local firefighters.
