WALDORF, Md. — For the third year in a row, three kings traveling by camel will arrive at Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026, as part of a community Epiphany celebration welcoming families from across Southern Maryland.
The kings are expected to arrive at 100 Village Street at 10 a.m., marking the start of the celebration, which will include food, music, and treats for children. All are invited to attend, and participation is open to everyone, regardless of religious background.
Children will have the opportunity to meet the kings, ask questions, and present letters. Families are encouraged to help children write letters ahead of time and bring them to the event. Parents and grandparents are invited to attend and observe the celebration alongside children of all ages.

“The Epiphany, the twelfth day of Christmas, celebrates the biblical adoration of baby Jesus by the Magi,” said Fr. Agustín López, pastor of the church. “According to the Gospel of Matthew, the men followed a star in the desert that led them to baby Jesus in a manger.”
Fr. López said the three kings welcome everyone and can understand all languages, allowing families of all backgrounds to feel included.
The Epiphany celebration is now in its third year. It was originally started by Fr. Jan and Fr. Alain, who had hoped for years to bring a Three Kings celebration to the Waldorf community. Fr. Carlos and Fr. López say they plan to continue the tradition in the years ahead.

Three Kings Day, also known as Epiphany, is observed in countries around the world, often with traditions centered on children and gift-giving. In Italy, children receive sweets and small presents from La Befana on Epiphany, while children in parts of Latin America, the Philippines, Portugal, and Spain traditionally receive gifts on Three Kings Day.
Children and families planning on attending will be able to see the kings arrive and enter the church during the celebration at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 100 Village St., Waldorf, MD.
More information about the Epiphany celebration is available through the church’s website at OLHOC.com or by contacting the parish office at 301-645-7112.
