MARYLAND – National School Breakfast Week begins March 2, shining a spotlight on the critical role school breakfast programs play in supporting millions of students each day.

Every morning, students walk into school facing different challenges and uncertainties. Thanks to school breakfast programs, however, one thing they do not have to worry about is whether they will have a meal to start their day.

For many children, that daily breakfast provides more than nutrition. It supports focus in the classroom, boosts energy and helps set a positive tone for the entire school day. Educators and child nutrition teams say that ensuring students have access to a morning meal can make a meaningful difference in academic performance and overall well-being.

National School Breakfast Week celebrates not only the meals served, but also the dedicated staff members who prepare and distribute them, as well as the students whose days are brighter because of them.

In preparation for the week, schools are encouraged to plan activities and promotions that raise awareness about the importance of school breakfast. Organizers have shared five easy tips to help schools plan, promote and celebrate the program without adding extra stress to already busy schedules.

Supporters of the initiative say that when schools plan together and prioritize access to breakfast, students benefit both inside and outside the classroom.

National School Breakfast Week runs March 2-6 in schools across the country.
