On June 21 at 3:54 a.m., a Charles County Sheriffโ€™s officer initiated a traffic stop near Indian Head Avenue and Bland Drive in Bryans Road after observing a traffic violation.

The driver refused to stop and continued driving to Mattingly Park where he jumped out of the car and ran. The officer pursued the suspect on foot until they reached a fence. At that point, the suspect turned, struck the officer and escaped.

Officers returned to the suspectโ€™s car where they found a small amount of marijuana. At 6:30 a.m., the suspect, Daniel Greg Daras, 21 of Bryans Road, called police and attempted to report his car stolen. He was arrested after he was identified as the driver that assaulted the officer.

Daras was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, and possession of drugs.
