OWINGS, Md., โ€” Two pediatric patients were flown out Sunday afternoon following a serious ATV crash in Owings that left one rider ejected after colliding with a tree.

The incident occurred just before 4:00 p.m. on March 30, near 2340 Dunkirk Drive, in the area of Dunkirk Hall and Mount Harmony Elementary School. According to dispatch and scene updates, the crash involved a four-wheeler (ATV) with a high-impact mechanism.

Emergency responders from Calvert County Fire & EMS arrived on scene and confirmed two juveniles were injured, prompting a second ALS (Advanced Life Support) transport request and multiple MEDEVAC helicopters.

At least one rider was reportedly thrown from the vehicle after the ATV struck a tree. No entrapments or vehicle fires were reported, but the severity of the impact triggered a โ€œhigh mechanismโ€ trauma protocol.

Both patients were flown to regional trauma centers by Maryland State Police aviation units, according to emergency radio traffic and official reports.

The condition of the patients has not yet been publicly confirmed.

Police remained on scene investigating the circumstances of the crash.

  1. Isn’t there a law about no 4wheelwrs and atvs being on roads? It’s sad it happened but everyone must follow the rules

  2. The county needs to enforce ATV/motor cycle/golf cart laws especially where kids are concerned.

  3. So…were they:
    – on private or public property?
    – 18 or older?
    – wearing helmets?

Hopefully they recover from their injuries, and all affected, learn from this experience.
