Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant

UPDATE

Lusby, MD – Calvert Cliffs returned to 100 percent power Monday afternoon, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.ย  Technicians repaired and fully tested plant equipment prior to safely returning the unit to service.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, at 10:24 p.m. the unit automatically shut down due to a leak of hydraulic fluid in the system that opens and closes turbine steam valves on the non-nuclear side of the plant.

All systems responded as designed. Unit 1 remained at full power. The Unit 2 shut down did not impact electrical service to Exelon customers.

Calvert Cliffs is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County and is Marylandโ€™s only nuclear energy facility.ย  The station is home to two pressurized water reactors capable of generating 1,756 megawatts combined. Units 1 and 2 began commercial operation in 1975 and 1977.
