Update: On November 3, 2012 at approximately 5:40 P.M., Deputy Kenneth Flerlage of the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office observed a white GMC Jimmy traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour on Maryland Rt. 5 in Leonardtown, Maryland.ย  Deputy Flerlage, operating a marked police vehicle, attempted to stop the GMC.ย  The operator of the GMC, later identified as Teddy Natel Ragan Jr., age 44 of Mechanicsville, Maryland, did not stop and continued to operate the vehicle recklessly, at a high rate of speed.ย 

During the pursuit two St. Maryโ€™s County deputies discharged their weapons.ย  The Deputies are identified as Lieutenant Philip Joseph, a 22 year veteran of the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office and Deputy Kenneth Flerlage, a 4 year veteran of the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office.ย  Both deputies have been placed on routine administrative leave.

Ragan sustained non-incapacitating injuries during the pursuit.ย  He was transported to St. Maryโ€™s Hospital treated and released.ย  Ragan has been charged with:

  • Assault First Degree

  • Fleeing and Eluding

  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

  • Driving While Impaired by Alcohol

  • Reckless Driving

  • Speeding (105 Mph in a posted 50 Mph Zone)

He is currently incarcerated in the St. Maryโ€™s under a $45,000 100% bond.

Detectives from the St. Maryโ€™s Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Office of Professional Responsibilities responded to the scene and are continuing the investigations.ย  Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
