Waldorf, MD – A vacant two-story house in Charles County was the scene of a late afternoon fire Tuesday, May 17 that authorities claim was deliberately set. The blaze at the house on Jones Court in Waldorf was reported by a neighbor shortly before 5 p.m.
According to a Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office report, 10 volunteers were dispatched to the one-alarm fire and brought the flames under control in five minutes. No injuries were reported.
“The fire was discovered and confined to the back porch at a vacant house in the Bannister neighborhood,” the report stated. Damage to the structure was estimated at $5,000. The house was in foreclosure, investigators reported.
No arrests have been made at this time and anyone who may have seen something or someone around this house recently is urged to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office at 443-550-6834.
