pedestrian accident

WALDORF, Md. — A man riding a scooter was struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning and was transported to an area trauma center.

The collision occurred shortly before 4:50 a.m. Jan. 20, 2026, at the intersection of Crain Highway and Mattawoman Drive, near a McDonald’s along U.S. Route 301. Emergency crews were dispatched after a caller reported hitting a male on a scooter.

When first responders arrived, the man was awake and breathing but complained of severe back pain. EMS evaluated the 62-year-old man at the scene.

Due to the incident, the first three lanes of Crain Highway were shut down while police and medical personnel worked at the scene. Officers advised holding traffic until a transport unit arrived.

The injured man was taken to UM Capital Region Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.

  1. We’ve got to be more mindful, drop all the speed limits by 10, and let’s leave earlier. Turn that Netflix off, put that phone down, yesterday I saw a woman texting with 2 hands while driving 95. We owe it to ourselves. Drive Safe.

  2. Yes, safety first; however, how do you know speed was involved? This happened at 4:50 AM – It’s dark! And he was on a scooter. Until I here information supporting your theory, I’ll go by what I actually read.
