MARBURY, Md. — A new season of avian drama is unfolding high above the Mattawoman Creek, and it’s all happening live.

The resident osprey couple at Smallwood State Park has officially gone from nest-building to egg-sitting, with their third egg arriving as of April 7, 2025. The first egg was spotted around 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, and local wildlife fans have been tuning in ever since via the park’s livestream.

The osprey cam—perched strategically above the nest—offers a front-row view of the parents taking turns incubating their growing brood. If all goes well, hatchlings could arrive by late April or early May.

The nesting update comes right on the tailfeathers of the annual “March on the Mattawoman,” held at the park on March 29. The event celebrated the return of ospreys to the region and the start of spring fishing season, drawing families, anglers, and birdwatchers alike.
