A Mechanicsville woman has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances (CDS). Judge Michael Stamm sentenced Margaret Saylor, 43, during a hearing Friday in St. Maryโ€™s County Circuit Court. The total sentence was three years but the judge suspended two years.

The CDS involved were Oxycodone and Alprazolam. At the time of her arrest 183 Oxycodone pills (Street Value $5,490), 148 Alprazolam pills (Street Value $730) and various other items were seized from her home.

Saylorโ€™s attorney, Public Defender Sean Moran said Saylor had a number of physical maladies, including a metal rod in her back, and that she got hooked on Oxycodone as a pain killer. He said she is on a treatment plan and has been weaned off some of the medications prescribed to her.

Moran asked for home detention for his client because of her medical condition but the judge denied that. She has also been denied admittance into adult drug court because of the seriousness of her offenses.

Saylor said to the judge, โ€œI just want to apologize for my behavior. I take full responsibility for what I did.โ€

Judge Stamm said to Saylor, โ€œI am not as concerned with your addiction as I am with what you have done to the community. What you were doing was hurting our community. Oxycodone is one of the worst things. I am horrified by what itโ€™s doing to the community.โ€

The judge imposed several special conditions of the five-year supervised probation she will receive after being released, including limiting her to getting prescriptions at one pharmacy and limiting her intake only to that prescribed.

Stateโ€™s Attorney Richard Fritz represented the state at the sentencing. Several other charges against Saylor were nolle prossed (dropped).
